Les Shears, a Western Front tour guide, World War One expert and (days away from retirement!) Head of History, will finally - after much anticipation and failed attempts - visit Pocklington School. Ask anyone to name a battle from the Great War and most will be able to recount the Somme, Passchendaele and maybe Verdun. The case will be made here for a re-examination of the 1917 offensive at Arras and its overall importance in the outcome of the war.
